/Television PR News/ - MIAMI, FL, September 14, 2008 — WLRN is proud to announce the seventh season of ArtStreet, an WLRN original series that introduces viewers to the huge array of arts that exist in South Florida. A half-hour series like no other, ArtStreet showcase the artists, actors, musicians, and other creative individuals who enrich our community, and renew our cultural spirit. The new seasons starts Monday September 15th on Channel 17!
"We strive to show people what the life of an artist is like- what inspires them, how they think and create," says Meredith Porte, producer and host of ArtStreet. The show is in search of creative people and places that add life and depth to our community. Meredith Porte and executive producer Adrienne Kennedy created the show six years ago when they looked around, and felt that this is something that the community really needed. ArtStreet which began with mainly studio interviews for the first 3 years later changed to become one that is now shot completely on location.
Recent shows included a tour of the Sagamore Art Hotel on Miami Beach, a visit to the Boca Museum of Art to see the Degas Sculpture Exhibition, a class in stress relief with celebrated Jamaican born drummer Willie Stewart, and a visit to with legendary civil rights photographer Bob Adelman.
The show is also committed to the idea that social change can come about through the arts. One example of this is an episode filmed at the Homestead Correctional Institution, where ArtSpring, a healing organization that helps transform women's lives through dance, was working with female inmates.
How does ArtStreet keep in touch with all of this creativity happening in South Florida? The secret is to simply look around you. If you look, you'll quickly see the artistic side of South Florida... it's in the neighborhoods and business areas, on the streets; it's the very fabric of our community.
