Z Animation Directors Cazin and Salladay create new campaign for Virgin Media
Z Animation's own award-winning animation directors Rob Cazin and Lauri Salladay, based in New York, have created a new campaign for Virgin Media.
SAINT LOUIS, MO, March 03, 2010 /Television PR News/ -- Z Animation's (www.zanimation.tv) own award-winning animation directors Rob Cazin and Lauri Salladay, based in New York, have created a new campaign for Virgin Media. The campaign features three beautifully CGI-animated spots, all to be shown in Odeon and Cineworld Cinemas all over the UK, and feature different British personalities from the music industry lending their voices to these masterfully animated ads.
One spot features Simply Red front man Mick Hucknall entering into KWACCS, a futuristic clinic in the Swiss Alps. In an attempt to "hold back zee years," a hefty female doctor prescribes TV from Virgin Media. When an attractive blonde female nurse escorts Mick out of the clinic, the burly doctor is revealed to be Virgin Media's own Richard Branson.
The second spot stars Kelly Osbourne in therapy, and her psychiatrist, a small, frail old woman suggests getting away from the spotlight and staying at home with Virgin Media. Again, the doctor here is in the end to be revealed as Virgin Chairman Richard Branson.
The final spot brings us to the office of a German plastic surgeon, who is discussing breast implants with former-Spice Girl Mel B, who is seeking an upper-body upgrade in hopes that they will bring her roles for big Hollywood movies. The surgeon then suggests Mel B subscribe to Virgin Media to keep up-to-date with the latest and greatest movies around. Once she leaves with her contract, the surgeon pulls his face off to reveal Richard Branson yet again, who closes with the line, "I've spiced up her life!"
"We've been developing our special character style over many years," explains director Lauri Salladay. "We have always been attracted to CGI with a tangible, atmospheric quality and rich, filmic, optical effects. While the look of these characters developed from our personal aesthetic, our very strong design team ensured the final success. We've got a very strong character designer, modeler and lighter: Humans represent the highest bar in character design and it's essential to have those key players in place. Texture and lighting (lighting is a general term that includes the complex, inter-related arts of defining the color, texture and quality of the surfaces, as well as how those surfaces react to light - in translucency and reflectivity) is where our characters get their great visual veracity...that rich detail that makes the viewer want to touch them."
In regards to the spots themselves, Salladay says, "We love these spots. We created them in nine months with an extremely efficient, close-knit crew of 14. We were very, very fortunate in our opportunity to work with Pip Bishop (writer) and Chris Hodgkiss (art director) of Rainey Kelley (I include them in the 14). It's my feeling, and I'm confident everyone who worked on this project will agree, that this was a dream job."
Rob Cazin and Lauri Salladay are represented by Executive Producer Peter Barg at Z Animation, and several of their pieces can be seen at www.zanimation.tv
